In the perspective of Zen games, we can define Namiji as the spiritual sequel to Tokaido. The action spaces are arranged on the game board in a linear fashion and players who advance along this path will try to undertake different actions. The player who is currently last takes his turn by advancing on the track until he reaches the desired point to perform his action; at this point, the other players must choose whether to advance slowly to obtain more turns, or travel more quickly to beat the other players and occupy the much-desired action space.
